RIP Mousr (tech toys)

Mousr, an app-controlled robotic cat toy with a flickable tail, has been discontinued by its creator Petronics. The Illinois-based company was funded on Kickstarter in 2014 with $116,965 pledged by 915 backers. Surprising news as the product had previously surpassed $100,000 in monthly sales on Amazon.

Small Door Vet opens first location

Small Door, a veterinary services membership startup, opened it’s first location in NYC, with plans to open more locations soon. The company is trying to create a subscription vet service, where members pay a monthly fee instead of the typical pay-per-visit business model. 

Pet app creator hires Purina exec (apps)

Good Boy Studios, creator of the social media app Pet Parade, has added former Purina VP of Digital, Michael Crawford, to its team. Pet Parade is a mobile app that allows pet owners to share photos of their pets and enter weekly contests to win pet prizes. The app gets more than 40 million impressions per month.

  • Whistle Fit (pet tracker) – the third version of their popular tracker skips the GPS and focuses on a pet’s health and fitness
  • Feeder-Robot (misc gadget) – a WiFi-enabled, app-controlled, cat feeder developed by the engineers who created the Litter-Robot smart kitty litter box 
  • CarePod (misc gadget) – a smart pet carrier with GPS tracking, insulated walls and a built-in water bowl that can be used on Delta airline flights
